We always seem to focus on our war dead but, compared to what some of the survivors of war have gone through, many servicemen have been heard to say that they may have been the lucky ones. Only those who make such a statement can truly understand what it means. It is something that we of the Yorkshire Heroes web site family, know that we have heard those words often, and said in all sincerity.
The Heroes of Hull has always intended to 'expand' the database to include those who came back, our Home Defence heroes who survived the wars, the survivors of the bombings; we want to honour them all.
Finding the survivors is so much more difficult than finding those who died, and we need your help. Was one of your friends or family a member of the armed forces? Did the serve with the WRVS or Salvation Army? Where they Fireman, Firewomen or Fire Watcher? Did they cycle through the blazing streets to deliver messages to and from Central Control, the Relief Centres or First Aid Posts? Were they bombed our, trapped by falling debris or did they end up in hospital? We want to thank them all by remembering them at the Heroes of Hull web site.
